7 combined image word image

My word is embarkation meaning to lose or to separate. The image on the left is an ad for an anti-depressant. When people are depressed, they feel separated for the world, the things and people they love, as well as their old self. The background of this image further pushing the definition of separation with the cracking of the ground the girl is on. It appears as if at any moment the ground could fall apart and she would be lost for ever. The image on the right is an illustration of a deer with its body separated into segments. The deer is divided by a burning tree going through the center of the deers body. This burning tree could represent the deers environment being lost and lost its home by either a natural fire or a man made fire. The deer is no longer about to survive without its environment, so it is broken or separated. At first glance, these images do not seem to relate; however, when a closer look is taken, both images depict a lose of normalcy and self. I choose this type face because it has thin, shaky lines as if the font is nervous like a person lost or a deer without the protection of its environment. I choose to separate the word onto different levels to further push the idea of lose and separation. The word itself is experiencing a lose of the letters as they fall away from the rest of the word.
My second word is beleaguerment meaning isolation. The image on the left is a mugshot of a young male. This image relates to the word in several ways. The male is being photographed for admittance into a prison. When someone enters prison, they are separated from the rest of the world; they are no longer a part of society. The viewer could also consider the idea that the inmate is no longer able to live his life freely; he is taken from his world and put into another world where he is no longer a member of society. He is separated from his family and everything he cares about. He may be convicted of a felony; in which case, he is no longer a acting member of society. He will no longer have all of his liberties and rights. He is separated by not being able to vote, not being able to posses a firearm, and not having many other rights a citizen is born with. If a person from native tribe saw this picture, they might relate the idea of separation simply because of the photograph. Many natives believe if a persons photograph is capture so is the persons soul, and it will forever be separated from the person and trapped in the image. The illustration on the right relates to separation in a more literal way. The deer is literally divided into segments. Each part of the deer is isolated into its own area. Deer are also herd animals, one rarely sees a deer separated from the herd, but in this image the deer is all by itself. I choose this type face because it is very thin and stretched out appearing as if the top of the letter is separated or disjointed from the bottom of the letter. I spaced the word out to isolate one of the letters. I choose to only isolate one letter instead of all the letters because it pushing the idea that when one is isolated, he or she is all alone.
For my third relationship, I compared the illustration of the deer to the photograph of the girl again, but with the word beleagument, the relationship between the images changes slightly. The photograph on the left depicts a girl suffering from depression. She is emotionally isolated where the deer in the illustration on the right is physically isolated. In the image on the left, the girl appears to be isolated in her own world where she is the only one who exists. This idea is further pushed because the path she is walking on is made out of anti-depressants; when a person is depressed they can easily feel as if they are the only one who has ever felt that way or as if they are the only one in the world. When depression occurs, the illness takes over; all the host can do is think about themselves and how isolated they feel they are from the rest of the world. They feel their feelings of happiness are isolated within themselves and those feelings will never again come to the surface. In the image on the right, the deer is isolated in that it is all alone. It no longer has an environment; it is isolated from the life it once lived just as the person on the left is isolated from her previous life.
For my four relationship, I compared the photograph of the depressed girl with the photograph of the male convict and the word embarkation. The word embarkation means to lose or to separate. In both the image on the left and right, the people have lost their old lives. The girl on the left has lost her old life and self because of her depression where as the male on the right has lost his old life and self because of his actions. The girl on the left feels lost because her brain is telling her she is where as in the photograph on the right, the male is literally lost from society because he made choices that lead to police putting him in jail. The girl on the left might be able to fight her illness and regain her old life she has lost; however, the male on the right may be able to fight his case and regain his freedom, but his life will never be the same.
For my fifth relationship, I compared the photographs of the depressed girl and the male convict again but this time with the word beleagument, meaning isolation. In both photographs the people are isolated from society. In the image on the left, the girl is emotionally isolated from society, where as in the image on the right, the male is isolated physically from society. The girl feels as if she is all alone because of her decease; however in the image on the right, the male is physically isolated from society. She is still a part of society, thought she many not feel it, but the male is no longer a part of society. He is in a new world and isolated in every way. He is isolated from his loved ones, and even if they come to visit, they are isolated from each other by a plastic or glass wall. The girl isolates herself because her illness tells her. She may feel as if she has no choice or she cannot stop the isolation, but she has full control over her recovery. Yet, in the male to the rights case,  he has absolutely no control over his isolation. He is in prison and now he has no say in his freedom and return to the outside world. It is up to others to break him free of this isolation and return him to society.
For many sixth comparison, I related the photograph of the male prisoner, the illustration of the deer being pulled apart, and the word embarkation meaning to lose or separate. In both of the images, the subject has lost there home. The male has lost his home and family because of the decisions he has made; where as, the deer has lost his home and family due to a fire that was caused by others. Both subjects are suffering from separation of the life they knew, but the male on the left chose a life that he knew might lead him to this point. The deer on the right on the other hand, has had separation inflicted onto it because of the acts and choices of others.
All three images show a division literally with the lines and breaks in the illustrations as well as in a intellectual way where the viewer has to think of the deeper meanings in all of the images to be able to see the separation and and isolation.

Final image word image

Image Word Image

I found the image of a man with a big knife and instantly thought of cooking. The deer is divided into segments which helps push the idea that it is dead or meat. The man is cutting his arm and the deer is cut into pieces, so I chose the word filet because it is a fancy form of cutting as well as the name for a certain piece of meat. I chose to have the font in all capitals so it would appear more intense. I picked a long, thin font to mimic the idea of knives being long and pointy. The word is split into 2 segments to mimic the division in both images as well as play off the word, cutting.
I first found the image of Einstein which made me think of intelligence. He enlightened many of the people in his time to new things about the world. The image on the left mimics the bright, radiant feelings I get from the image on the right. I choose the word irradiate because it plays off both images. Irradiate means to expose to radiation, uplifting, to send forth rays and to shed light on. The image on the left appears to mimic a sun; it is uplifting, and bright. Einstein shed light on many aspects of the world so others could understand it. I choose this type because it is simple, easy to comprehend, and appears to radiate upwards.
These images both give off feelings of happiness and excitement. The bright colors and the movement of both pieces flow nicely into each other. The viewer gets a feeling of a fun night out. I choose the word indulge because it relates to both the amount of intake and giving into cravings. I choose this font because it appears very mature and exciting. The placed the word multiple times to play off the word; when you indulge yourself you rarely have one of the item you are indulging in.
I feel both of these images work together in a literal way and in a mental way. The girl in the image on the left is physically stretching her body and President Clinton's head is physically being stretched. When I think of Clinton, I also relate the word aggrandize, stretch, because he stretched the truth. Most politicians do. Clinton's image is also on fire which can relate to the burn you feel after stretching or exercising. I choose this font because it appears stretched out and tall. I spread to letters of the word out to mimic a stretch.
These two images work nicely together because they both have to do with separation and lose. When a person is depressed they feel lost. They are not themselves and do not know how to find themselves again. The deer is literally torn apart. It has lost a portion of its body as well as its environment. I chose this font because it is thin and a little shaky, almost like the word is nervous. I separated the letters to mimic the idea of lose. The letters are falling away for the word so the word is experiencing lose.

More Ads

This image is of a very buff person holding a butchers knife. The hands of this man are together, and his arm is cut clean off. If I were to put something lighthearted like a childs toy being pulled off would make this image much less violent and disterbing. If I wanted to go in the other direction and make this image more horrifying, I could put an image of something dead or bloody.

Word: consternate, meaning to horrify, disturb, alarm.
This is a illustration of a deer with a tree cutting through the deers belly and separating the deer into sections. The deer is surrounded by broken branches and a burning tree. One gets a strong feeling of nature and the loss of nature. Being paired with the segmented deer reveals the feeling of the loss of nature in turn means the loss of the animal. If I placed this illustration next to an image of a rain forest, the viewer would feel badly about trees being cut down. If I have this next to a steak or grill, the viewer would feel the deer is delicious or what's for dinner.

The word is consternate, meaning to divide or separate. I choose this word because it can relate to a lot about the deer. The deer (meat) if you were to cook it, you would need to separate the deer into pieces and then take it off the bone. The word also relates to the deer being separated from its environment.
This illustration of Albert Einstein. He is a symbol of brains, madness, and discovery. He is portrayed with a bright halo around his head. If I put the next to a light, the viewer would get the since of enlightening, both because Einstein's being lighten up and Einstein was an inventor of many cool things. If I put this next to a picture of some silly gadget, the viewer would think he designed it or he could figure it out.
Acumen is the word, meaning intellect.
For this ad, I get a strong feeling of isolation, loneliness, and loss. These feelings are very prevalent because the background is all cracked, the girl is all alone, and there are paxil, anti-depressants. If I had this picture next to a grave, the viewer might think the girl is depressed because she lost someone close to her. If I cropped this down to just the girl on the path and placed it next to a picture of the yellow break road from the Wizard of Oz, they viewer could think the girl is lost physically not just mentally.

word: Embarkation; to lose, separation. This works for the ad on two levels. The girl is physically lost trying to find her way, and she is also emotionally lost. She has lost herself because of her depression. She is lost and isolated from society.
This ad is very open to interpretation. The bright colors remind me of a sun or the summer. It appears very light and happy; this ad would not make sense for an ad for guns or other harmful items. If I put this next to a soda ad, the viewer would read it as bubbles or carbonation. If I had the image next to a mountain, it would appear as snow on the mountain.

Word: Illuminate, to brighten. This word carries through many aspects of this ad. It refers to the light and bright colors, the feelings you get from the ad.
This is an ad of President Clinton. This ad gives off the feeling that Clinton is not a good guy. He is on fire and smoking like many of the lies he got caught in. His face is stretched out which makes me think again of his expansion of his lies. He stretched the truth just like how his face is being stretched. If I had this ad next to a picture or article of Clinton cheating on his wife, it would give off a sense of he is in the wrong, and he is upset about it. If I had this next to a forest, the viewer might read it as the president is burning or cutting down trees and ruining the forest.

Word, Aggrandize: to stretch.

Word, Aggrandize: to stretch. This is an image of a girl stretching. The feelings I get from this ad are of intensity, pushing to the limits, and extension. If I placed this image next to an ad for the Olympics, the viewer might think the Asian teams are working very hard and extending themselves to the limits in order to win. Now if I placed it next to an ad for foot cream, the viewer would read it as athlete with dry feet. They might feel the cream must work if athletes use it.

7 ads and word list

This is a very creative ad. It depicts a brain toy holding a laptop. If i were to put a picture of another toy next to it or writing related to a toy store, the viewer would see this wooden brain as a toy. If I printed this photograph really large and hung it in the lobby of a technical/computer company, the viewer might read this as fine art. This photograph appears very mechanicalalmost out of a scientific movie; the ad could be mistaken for a tv show or alien movie. Word: perfunctory.

This is very abstract and simple ad. It shows a computer screen covered with a brown bag. Though it is very simple, this ad could take on many different meanings. This ad could remind the viewer of a present if there was a bow on the computer. If I placed a picture of a trash can or dumpster next to the ad it would no longer give the impression of new and take on the impression of old, used and dirty.Word: Walkover

This is an illustration of an imaginary fight taking place between a alligator/book and man on a red horse. If this ad was next to an article about teachers or the school board, the viewer might see this ad as a rebellion of the teachers. If this ad were made into a statue and placed on top of a trophy, this ads new meaning would be victory and triumph. Word: Surmounting.

This ad shows many colorful graphs and studies done on drugs. However, these graphs are very beautiful without the words. If I put other images of colorful shapes next to this ad, the viewer might think it is an ad for a museum exhibit or art show. Word: Recondite.
This illustration seems very painful and creepy. The boys eyelid is being kept open by a laser beam. If I had a picture of an eye chart or of an eye doctor next to the illustration, the ad would read as an ad for eye care. If I put this illustration next to an image of a little toy holding the laser, then the viewer might not want to buy the toy because they know it can fall apart and be hurtful to a child. Word: Idiosyncratic.

This ad depicts a shower head that can be turned in 4 directions. If I were to take away the water from the ad, the viewer may no longer read it as the same object; instead, it might resemble a microphone. If I was to put a image of a water park next to this ad, it might be viewed as a attraction at the water park. If I put a image of a conditioner bottle next to this image, the viewer might think the ad is for soft hair. Word: Labyrinthine.

This ad is very creative, using the liquor to fill and shape the glass.  If I were to remove the glass for the image, it would still read as an ad for alcohol. If I took the bottle away, the ad no longer has to read as drinking. It resembles more of a hand created glass sculpture, a wave, or a piece of sea glass. Word: Lymphatic.
